Polson Enterprises, Gary Polson Background
Gary Polson a self proclaimed Information Architect and president of Polson Enterprises webmasters a site called RBBI, Recreational Boat Building Industry Home Page. It is a very large site for use by those in the recreational boat building industry covering management issues, technical issues, legal issues, marketing, patents, research, product testing, engineering, and many other areas. In it, Gary also covers the high profile recreational boating accidents.
Brief quick background on Gary - He recently worked 6 years as an R&D engineer for a major recreational marine drive manufacturer. While there he was able to become strongly involved in providing information throughout the corporation and also assisted in the development of a new marine steering device that was patented with him as a co-inventor. He was then able to assist in early production activities in both Japan and Brazil as suppliers were preparing to manufacture the device. He left the marine firm in August of 1996 to continue to run a home business that he started in 1982 and to pursue some internet ideas and some inventions.
His home business, Strength Tech, Inc., manufactures a unique weightlifting barbell collar he invented and patented as well as supplies weight lifting upholstery supplies to reupholster weight lifting equipment used in prisons. He also webmasters The Industry Research Desk which is used by those researching companies and industries around the world. It's "How to Learn About an Industry or a Specific Company " tool is being hailed around the world. The site was featured in the January 6, 1997 issue of Industry Week (page 36). He is also currently working on two more web sites, both are of an educational nature. Gary tries to maintain all these different activities including webmastering the Strength Tech web site which carries a lot of information on the issue of lifting weights in prisons, get in his powerlifting workouts, develope his photography skills, study of the Japanese language and not get "yelled at" to much by Lora Polson, his wife, and the other half of Polson Enterprises. Lora helps with some of the paperwork and helps him with the layout of major web pages. When it all gets going smoothly, Lora will be taking over the web advertising function of dealing with web site sponsors, book ads for the various Polson Enterprises web sites, and the perform the related accounting duties.
Links to two more official looking resume's are given here. The first is on the RBBI website which is a Clearinghouse Library site. They (Clearinghouse) ask for some specific background information. The second is a slightly dated resume on Gary on the Strength Tech website.
When the Bright Field crash hit the news, Gary thought, "what the heck", and threw up a few news clips in the RBBI accident folder. Immediately a high level of interest was detected from both RBBI readers and many others. He then structured it more into an independent looking site (although it was still a part of the RBBI site) and began to post much more extensive information. Now it has been given a graphical interface and is an independent web site. Feedback is encouraged from our readers and several items have been added at their request, including this section.
As the site has grown and we have been able to determine a more about our readers. We find a number of them make a living in the maritime industry around the world, while others are lawyers, law students, marine publications, other marine websites, those involved in the hearings and potential legislation, those actually at the crash including some with injuries, and others. We are trying to maintain a mix of materials to keep these people interested. We recognize that the site will probably eventually go to a more legal flavor and the issues begin to be battled in the courtroom.
The first thrust was to publish summaries of the various news clips and that effort is still continuing. The second thrust will be to publish items that will allow more in depth understanding of the crash and to contribute ideas and concepts to those actually involved in the various investigations. The third thrust is anticipated to be publishing the findings of the various investigations, hearings, and trials. The fourth and final thrust will be cleaning up the site and making it useful to law schools as a case study and to future investigators as reference material.
