Industry Data Sources

The sites listed below are the major sources of data on industries. Do not forget to also check the Industry Home Pages section, and if you want to do more in depth research, the "How to Learn About an Industry or a Specific Company" Page.

Statistical Abstract of the U.S. Portions of it are available on the web, the entire book is available from our bookstore.
A Canadian version is also available on the web. It is titled Canadian Industrial Overviews. If you back up to its home page, even more Canadian data is available.
STAT-USA provides some industry data for free and the rest on a subscription basis.
Manufacturing U.S.A. provides indepth information on over 400 industries. It is available from our bookstore.
Current Industry Reports (CIR) are U.S. government prepared reports on many industries and provide a great deal of current information. A somewhat similar set of reports filed by the Canadian government, Canadian Industry Statistics, is also a great resource.
U.S. Industrial Outlook was last published in 1994, but is still a major historical data tool. It has been replaced by U.S. Industry & Trade Outlook which is available from our bookstore.
PeerScape signup required, but its free. Exceptional graphical data presentations of industry data via Adobe Acrobat format.
Automobile Industry Data by Toyota (English Japan site). This site is as incredibly thorough as it is painfully slow.
