These Portals are major sources of information for over 100 U.S. industries. They provide rapid access to vast amounts of information for those in the industry, researchers, investors, market research professionals, and inventors. They often include industry news, statistics and sometimes include B2B (Business to Business) commerce.

Portal Publishers

  • AROQ - Just-Sites publishes a few very excellent portals

  • Trade Worlds provides a large number of portals, mostly for European industries. They are primarily B2B sales oriented and do not contain a great deal of info yet.

  • Industry Pages.Com had portals for about 30 industries. As mid 2002, most of their content was an industry news feed. Looks like they may be in process of expanding content. In May 2006 they were requiring a login to see anything and still do.

  • SPG Media of the U.K., as of August 2009 they were operating 28 industry portals.

  • Access Intelligence prints several trade magazines and manages related online portals

  • SMI Group produces Conferences and Executive Briefings in several areas including Defense, Pharmaceuticals, Energy, Telecom, Finance, and PFI & PPP. Their supporting sites are nice mini portals for those industries.

  • Diversified Business Communications prints some trade papers they support with online portals

  • Investor Ideas operates several technical industry portals focused from the investment side, but also providing significant market research information on those industries.

  • Decision News Media operates several portals aggregating industry news and other information. Many of them cover the European market.

  • Ozean Group of Canada operates several industry news based portals

  • Nielsen operates several industry portals

  • SpecialChem provides several portals in the chemical industries

  • Syngenta operates portals for several agricultural crops

  • Portal Publishers no longer with us
    • Industry Central (http://www.industry-central.com) provided a number of industry portals. They are not as developed, but contain some excellent links to external information. The sites were SHUT DOWN 15 Oct 2001. Link remains here for historical purposes.

    • http://www.theeuniverse.com The E Universe.Com. Most are for Asian markets, but contain worldwide info. Their Wool Universe portal is exceptionally well done.

    • http://www.nri-ltd.net/websites.html Net Resources International, a U.K. firm primarily operates technology, transportation, military and power industry portals. - I think they are now SPG Media

    • AEC Universe was at www.aecuniverse.com/industryportal.asp was part of a much larger group of portals by theeniverse.com. Some are sales oriented and others have significant content. I even noticed an old VerticalNet portal in their portfolio.

    • Vertical Net and early developer of MANY portals. Theirs were indicated with a VN after their title. In 2000/2001 Vertical Net began emphasizing selling materials and services over informational content, however they still provide some industry coverage. We have removed most of them from this list because they seem to focus more on advertising than content. By 2009 they no longer exist.

    If you find a site you really like and would like to find more sites like it for your industry, find the site in Alexa and it will identify sites visited by others that visit the site you like (where they visit is probably where you want to visit too).
